The African sound, light and natural wildlife is an inspiration on its own but here at JD we are adding our tranquil retreat atmosphere, lots of diverse and unique coloured equines, all the comfort and our unique creative flair and atmosphere to your inspiration! 

Join us on this unique opportunity to learn from world-renowned Wildlife and Equine artist Kate Jenvey how to sketch and draw horses and wildlife! Learn how to use graphite and coloured pencil professional. Find out how to sketch surrounded by life animals and also learn how to best take reference photos and to draw from your photos that you take yourself together with Kate! 

In your private horsemanship lessons you will learn how to live and communicate force-free and in harmony with horses/animals (you can also choose to work with the miniature horses or mini donkeys or our adorable Alpacas.)


The heart of this retreat is an intensive Etosha wildlife Safari. You will leave Sandwerf for 5 nights and enjoy your stay in the stunning Etosha Safari Lodge (price includes single twin-room occupation, breakfast, dinner buffet and 3 full day game drives with snacks & park fees). Now the wild journey begins and its time to observe and take it all in! Sketching with Kate from the open game drive vehicle and capturing as many reference photos as possible! The Etosha wildlife scene is simply stunning and abundant! And everyday there is something new, precious and exciting wildlife scenes to discover!

Additional Program Information

Surround yourself with the healing and inspiring spirit of Joseph’s Dream Appaloosas in the silence of the African bush! Learn new techniques and sharpen your artistic skills! Get inspired by our huge variety of colourful horses living natural in a herd environment in Namibia's untouched nature and get to know our philosophy how to live with horses and nature with respect and in harmony first-hand!

Art is more than the process of drawing or painting; its a way to see and feel and live. You will feel home and at peace here with us to reach the deepest level of inspiration and flow! You’ll have time to recharge, relax and just absorb the beauty of Namibia's stunning nature, free roaming wildlife and our gorgeous horse family. 

Kate will start the first week with lessons about horse details like eyes, noses, manes, skin and hooves and then move on to the full horse; while you learn the techniques of capturing the anatomy, values and textures in graphite. Using the same concept of details and working toward the full animal, in the 2nd week Kate will focus on wildlife with you and on the application and techniques with coloured pencils.

On Saturday mornings you will have the chance to give back and becomes the teacher yourself for a small group of children from the nearby local community. (Optional) 


Choose from our different JD training methods your 5 private lessons included in your Retreat stay, to deepen your connection with your equine models and to expand your horizons to have a look into the equine soul... Basic Horsemanship, Clicker Training, Liberty, Trust exercises, Bodywork and co are on offer and our talented JD trainer will teach you how to truly connect force-free!


Our peaceful and modern shaped green village provides accomodation for you during your stay in one of our brand-new chalets with kingszise bed,  private toilet and bathroom. Our limited number of maximum 10 participants for this exclusive retreat ensures that the desired family character of the whole experience stays alive and provides the opportunity for personal attention and questions.


Etosha truly is a wildlife kingdom and symbol for Namibia's raw and untouched nature and will ensure your real African experience and provide tons of sketching and photo opportunities! Our peaceful and modern shaped green village provides accomodation for you during your stay in one of our unique and light chalets; each room single occupation and each room with private bathroom. Each chalet has a veranda with it's own mini pool. (See pictures below)



Three meals provided by our talented chef on side are included as well as water, juice, tea, coffee - extra drinks are not included and on your own account. 




Airport Shuttle from Hosea Kutako International Airport to Sandwerf Retreat Farm: € 35.00 per person

Extra Days

You are welcome to book extra days as an exclusive guest as extension to this course to practise your newly gained artistic skills or to (re)learn horse riding the gentle way while booking additional horsemanship lessons with us.

Good to know


You are entering Namibia on a Tourism Visa that you will get in form of a stamp at the airport when entering into the country

(Please note only Citizen of the People’s Republic of China will need to apply for an entry visa upfront).


Travel Vaccinations recommended for Namibia are Tetanus, Hepatitis and Typhus; as recommended in general for the whole of Africa.
